HomeMy WebLinkAbout1975-02-06 EULESS PUBLIC LIBRARY Board of Trustees Regular Meeting February 6, 1975 CALL TO ORDER - 7:40 PM The meeting was called to order by Hugh Waite, Chairman. Members attending, as follows: Hugh Waite, Carl Hankins, Dottie Ragley, Jo Ingram, Kay Fuller, and Barbara Zieschang. Also attending, Willie May McCormick from Euless City Council and Mr. Blackie Sustaire, City Manager. Present representing the Library, Mrs. Geneva Armstrong, Librarian. MINUTES TO JANUARY 16, 1975 MEETING A motion was made by Dottie Ragley to approve the minutes of the Jan. 16, 1975 meeting as written, seconded by Carl Hankins. No objections or further discussion forthcoming, the Chair called for the vote, which was as follows: Ayes : all members Nays: none The Chair declared the minutes approved. LIBRARIAN 'S REPORT The circulation record shows an increase of 2.1% over the first four months of FY 74. Use of the Library has also increased. Permission to accept memberships in the FRIENDS OF THE EULESS LIBRARY at the circulation desk has been received from the City Manager 's office. The Library has passed the 30,000 volume mark, a matter of some pride. The Tarrant Regional Library Association agreed to send a letter to the County Commissioners Court in support of the Tarrant County Library Study Committee's recommendation of a 5% across the board increase in county funding to municipal libraries. A meeting concerning the Retired Senior Volunteer Program in Tarrant County was attended by Mrs. Armstrong. Job description forms were filled out requesting help in serving the rest homes in the area for the Library. Open House date is still undetermined, but word is expected daily. The Library Newsletter which will announce the Open House to the citizens will be preared by the secretary of the Board as soon as word is received. FORT WORTH MAJOR RESOURCE SYSTEM A meeting of the Council and the LSS staff will be held February 28. A report on the year's project to date and developments in the project will be on the agenda. TARRANT COUNTY LIBRARY STUDY COMMITTEE As stated in the Librarian's report, a letter of support from the TRLA was sent to Commissioners court. Rumor has it that the request was honored in full by the Commissioners, but we haven't seen the Budget yet. Frank Tetrault of Southlake after two years effort has established the Southlake Public Library separate from the Carroll School System. He has the use of an old Post Office for 4 months starting March I to prove public interest in a municipal Library. We are requesting aid in collecting books for a basic collection for Southlake. BI-CENTENN$AL COMMISSION - Carl Hankins EULESS PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD - Feb. 6, 1975 - Page 2 The Bi-Centennial of Texas has funded the proposed genealogy collection for the Library at $1200.00. Publicity for the Medallion Contest has been released. Awards of a $25 Savings Bond and a $50 Savings Bond have been posted. Possible funding of the Sundial through HUD is being investigated with the help of COG. FRIENDS OF THE EULESS LIBRARY - Dottie Ragley Mrs. Sis Perkins has agreed to take on the re- organization of the FRIENDS. She is working hard to contact former members of the organization and plans an organization meeting soon. The FRIENDS would like to participate in Open House by having a table set up in the Library. Participation of the EULESS FRIENDS with other local FRIENDS groups in a book sale during National Library Week is being looked into. WELCOME TO OUR CITY MANAGER The Board expressed pleasure at the presence of Mr. Sustaire. He assured the Board of the City's good will and interest in the Library including fair funding practice and reasonable consideration of requests. The Charter Revision Committee may be delayed unless there is a run-off election because of the techicality about timing. A citizen body may be appointed soon concerning improving the physical aspects of the image of Euless. A Clean City is the idea. Mr. Sustaire asked for the cooperation of the Board in these future plans, and was assured that the City would have the support and cooperation of the Board in this matter. CAREER WORKSHOP FOR WOMEN Hugh Waite informed the Board of the Career Workshop which will be held in Dallas by the National Organization of Women in April .
