Regular Meeting - 'Board of Trustees

CALL TO ORDER
The regular meeting of the
Board of Trustees was called to order at 7 : 50 PI by Hugh.
cite , ',hairman members present, as follows: Hugh 'Sa.ite,
;ar- 1 Hankins, Mrs . Buddy Ragley and Mrs. Barbara Zieschang.
Members absent : :sir. s . Iva Starnes and Mrs . Kay Fuller.
Also present representing the
Librarian was Mrs . Sue Morrow.
MINUTE')
The minutes to the previous
meeting were misdated July 1 , 1974 instead of August 1 , 1974 .
This mistake being corrected, the minutes were approved as read
on a motion by Mrs. Ragley, seconded by Carl Hankins . There
being no objections or further corrections, the Chairman
called for the vote which was as follows : Ayes, all present ;
T,ays, none . The Chairman declared the minutes approved as read .
LIBRARIAN 'S REPORT - PUrs. Morrow
The circulation figure has increased
6 . r over the fiscal years record of 1973 .
Mrs. Neal , the Childrens Librarian,
arranged to award each child finishing the 'summer Reading
Program a certificate for a free Dairy Queen cone , ;he has
continued the Thursday Story Hour including films and a visit
from the Euless Fire Department and has reported attendance of
30 to 40 children under 7 years of age . Several Parents have
also attended.
In the Display case is a collection
of books that have been banned since the Fifth and Sixth
Centuries to the present time . blany of them are now considered
classics . All are important additions to literary development .
An important three day seminar
on the use of computer services for communication, research,
2nd other library needs will be held Se )t . 7 , 3i and
sponsored by ; . L. I ' . The last day involves utilization
of compute services and our delegates to Tarrant ''.oun_ty i-cr r

held again at Runaway Bay, Lake Bridgeport on Oct . 11 and 1% .
The Trustees Program is scheduled for Oct . 1" and the Board
members are urged to attend
The Library received a donation
for books and materials from the Goals for Euless Program, a
total of iA00 . 74 Rev. Bill Anderson of Hirst laptist hurch
of Euless and ;ha.ries Page of Texas Power ,z Light are co-chair-
men of the Usoals for Euless Program
The desk which matches the Library
furnishings which was requested from the for the use of
the ;hildren' s Librarian has not yet been released and is
badly needed.
i• rs . Armstrong is interviewing
for replacement in the reference department of the Library.
Two recent graduates of North Texas have applied for the
position.
CHILDREN'S LIBRARIAN - DESK
A motion was made that the
Librarian request again that the desk which was removed from the
Library be returned for the use of the 'Children' s Librarian
by '.`rs . Ragley, seconded by Carl Hankins , There being no
objections or further discussion, the 'Chairman called for the
vote , which was as follows : Ayes, all present ; Nays , none .
The ;hairmao declared the motion carried and so instructed
the Librarian' s representative, Mrs . Morrow.
TARRANT .COUNTY LIBRARY �'TULY ;OP:1. ITTEE
The TCLSC will meet on Sept. 30 ,
1974 to finalize the recommendation to the ,County :ommisioners
regarding an inflation factor in funding, a 10% across the board
increase in funding including the `w2 , 000 minimum, and policy
agreements between the 2ounty and the libraries .
MAJOR RESOURCE SYSTEM
The Euless Library will receive
;r, 000 grant from the Texas State Library through the t, R" "tc
enrich two areas of your non-fiction collection, and to add to
your stock of reference tools" . A meeting on Sept. 27 will
be held to deal with areas of primary need and introduce the
f e] retiresenta.tives who will work through the MRS visiting
the libraries to advise and aid in establishing criorities .

EULESS COUNCIL FOR SOCIAL CONCERNS
The Survey which was sent out
with the help of the United Fund Council for Research and
Planning is in the process of being gathered in and collated.
The next meeting on. Sept. 17 will hear Dr. June Garrett from
the Drug Abuse Council report on the counciling activities in
Euless and the effectiveness thereof.
LIBRARY ACCOUNT IN THE CITY BUDGET
The Board requested that Chairman
Waite obtain a breakdown of the 410,000 book budget to include
sources and amounts under the three headings actual , estimated,
and budgeted. This is important information in order that
we may consider the recommendations both to the County and 1RS .
ART EXHIBIT
An exhibit of the abstract works of
: onte Losee, a geophysicist for Mobil Oil, is on display in the
library for 30 days . This is the first exhibit of abstract art
to be shown in the Library. The Chairman suggested a note of
thanks from the Board to Mr. Losee . The Secretary was so
instructed.
USE CF 16 mm PROJECTOR
Chairman Waite suggested that the
Board consider sponsoring a film festival using films which ._r_ c
available free to the Library as a means of popularizing the
use of the AV equipment. The matter will be discussed at
greater length at another meeting.
Bi-BENTENNIAL COLIMITTEE
Carl Hankins, the Library Board
representative to the Bi-Centennial Committee -Manning for
Euless is chairman of that committee . A Steering committee
meeting and the first of the planning meeting have been held
and discussions are under weigh for activities, landmark-monuments,
etc .
