Also present was Mrs. Geneva Armstrong,
Librarian.
MINUTES
Minutes of the May meeting were
approved as read by Mr. McCormick with agreement of the
Board members present.
LIBRARIAN'S REPORT
Mrs. Armstrong reported a decrease in
circulation of - 3. 2 under the first five month of 1971 .
As the use of the library' s study facilities is continuing
to be utilized enthusiastically, the reason for this decline
is not known at present.
The visit of the Funmobile, a service
of the Fort Worth Major Resource Center through MRS funds,
was well attended on June 6. Mrs. Armstrong announced that
an eager audience of 70 children watched the Puppet Show and
the Movie shown in the Fuller Room was also observed by a
satisfyingly numerous group. Mrs. Armstrong noticed several
parents who stayed to see the shows.
Both Summer Libraries are open and
functioning well. At Oakwood Terrace, Miss Liz Neal has
two volunteer student helpers and the full cooperation
of the Principal, Mr. Colvert, who has offered the school' s
audio-visual aids and the use of the television for showing
of Sesame Street in the morning and the Electric Company in
the afternoons.

Mr. Waller, has been shown in every instrance. The Librarians
have reported that the teachers have shown interest in the
book lists which the Library keeps on the Summer Reading
Program on each child, and have requested use of these liss
after the Program is over. It has also been suggested that
standing portable signs be placed in front of the schools
to notify the neighboorhood of the location of the Summer
Libraries.
RECOGNITION FOR A MEMBER
Mr. McCormick moved that the Board
recognize publicly our pride in one of our Board members,
George Barrowcliff, on his award and receiving his patent
certificate for his method of detecting stray electrical
energy on a conductor. Mr. Scott seconded the motion, and
the vote being unanimous, Mr. McCormick instructed the
secretary to write a paragraph to be printed in the Mid-Cities
paper.
LONGER HOURS FOR THE MAIN LIBRARY
Mr. McCormick said he has received
several calls asking him about the possibility of keeping
the Library open until 9 P.M. on Monday through Thursday
and through the afternoon on Saturday. Mrs. Armstrong agreed
that many of the patrons suggest longer hours in the course
of telephone requests for the hours the Library is now open.
Mr. McCormick suggested that the Board and. Librarian make a
feasibility study on the proposed longer hours. Mr. Scott
suggested question sheets to be filled out by patrons, handed
out with books checked out and returned with the books, each
form to be signed by the patron. Mrs. Armstong was requested
to compile the questionaire for the Board' s examination next
month.
