HomeMy WebLinkAbout1971-06-18 Regular Meeting Euless Library Board June 18, 1971 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Euless Library Board was called to order at 7:07 P.M. in the Fuller Room of Euless Public Library with the Secretary, Mrs. Zieschang, presiding. Members present are listed as follows : Messrs. Hugh Waite, George Barrowcliff; Mesdms. Bernard Mathews and W. R. Zieschang. (Absent were Messrs. George Scott and W. W. McCormick.) Also present was Mrs. Geneva Armstrong, Librarian. LIBRARIAN'S REPORT MRS. GENEVA ARMSTRONG Circulation Report Mrs. Armstrong reported that circu- lation has increased 14.5% over the first five (5) months of 1970. (Copy of written report on file in Office of the City Secretary.) Summer Reading Program Mrs. Armstrong advised that the Summer Reading Program is well launched, with good involvement, and the Story Hour is well attended. She reported that the theme, THE TRAIL OF TEARS , is stimulating interest in Indian history and lore. Mosier Valley Library Mrs. Armstrong reported that Community Action representatives recently visited Euless Public Library to learn cataloguing procedures to help in setting up a library in Mosier Valley. She advised that Euless Public Library donated a set of Funk and Wagnall 's Encyclopedia for the new library, and the children received another in- vitation to participate in the Summer Reading Program and Story Hour. American Library Association Meeting Mrs. Armstrong advised that the American Library Association will meet in Dallas on June 19-28, 1971 , and she plans to attend this meeting. (Page Two, Minutes of Regular Meeting, Euless Library Board, June 18, 1971) II . SPECIAL COMMITTEE REPORT, MRS . BERNARD MATHEWS Mrs. Mathews reported that information obtained from Mrs. Gwynn, Librarian for Hurst Public Library, indicates that the HEB School Library Program in the City of Hurst is conducted un- der the same contract as the Summer Recreation Program. The Hurst Library Program provides one paid professional worker and one volunteer worker to operate the libraries at elementary schools for four (4) hours each day. Mr. Waite moved that the Special Com- mittee attend a City Council meeting and recommend authorization to proceed with plans for the use of two elementary school libraries under the Euless Summer Library Program, in a plan similar to the one adopted by the City of Hurst. Mr. Barrowcliff seconded the motion, and the vote is as follows : Ayes: Mesdms. Mathews and Zieschang; Messrs. Waite and Barrowcliff Nays : None Acting Chairman Zieschang declared the motion carried. Mr. Waite volunteered to be a member of the Special Committee, advising that he will attend the City Council meeting with Mr. Scott and Mrs. Mathews. III . ANNOUNCEMENT CONCERNING ELECTION OF OFFICERS It was announced that the election of officers will be conducted at the regular meeting for the month of July. IV. ADJOURNMENT Acting Chairman Zieschang moved to adjourn the meeting. Mrs. Mathews seconded the motion, and the vote is as follows: Ayes : Mesdms. Mathews and Zieschang; Messrs. Waite and Barrowcliff Nays : None Acting Chairman Zieschang declared the motion carried, and the meeting was adjourned at 8:00 P. M.
