HomeMy WebLinkAbout1968-11-21 Regular AeeLi y of the Euless Public Library Board November 21 , 1968 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Euless Library Board was called to order at 7:00 P. M. , in the Fuller Room of Euless Public Library, by Chairman Anna Crouch. Members present are listed as follows: Messrs. George Scott, Warren Fuller and Wayne O ' Daniel ; Mesdms. Ruby Harris, Anna Crouch and Geneva Armstrong, Librarian. (Absent: Mr. Robert Soule) APPROVAL OF MINUTES Minutes of the previous meeting, dated August 22, 1968, were approved, with one correction, as follows: ITEM VII : REPORT ON ADDITION TO MEMORIAL COLLECTION Mrs. Armstrong reported that a book entitled "John Wesley and the Christian Ministry" by A. B. Lawson, has been placed on the shelf in memory of the father and brother of former Library Board Member, Mrs. Jym Pollard. DISCUSSION OF TEXAS MUNICIPAL LEAGUE MEETING IN DALLAS In a discussion of the recent Texas Municipal League Meeting in Dallas, November 10-12, 1968, Mrs. Crouch advised that she surmises that officials from the City of Euless were in attendance; however, the Librarian, Mrs. Armstrong, was not included. Members of the Library Board were in agreement that the Librarian should plan to attend the next Texas Municipal League meeting. II . DISCUSSION OF PROPOSED TEXAS LIBRARY SYSTEMS BILL The proposed Texas Library Systems Bill was discussed by Members of the Board. All members were urged to cooperate in contacting their Legislators concerning this Bill at the proper time. III . AMENDMENT TO BY-LAWS FOR EULESS 'LIBRARY BOARD Article IV, Section 5 of Euless Library Board By-Laws was discussed by Board Members. The Historian and/or Librarian shall attend to ail pub ■ icity releas es concerning the Euless Library and the Euless Library Board." Mr. Scott Seconded the motion, and the vote is as follows . Card Catalog Breakdown Mrs. Armstrong reported that Library personnel have separated the cards on ,juvenile Books from the others, in the Card Catalog; however, further breakdown has not been accomplished at this time. Mrs. Armstrong was requested to furnish a report giving the approximate number of man hours necessary for finalization of this breakdown. Five Year Plan Mrs. Armstrong reported that 2, 177 Titles have been added to the library collection. She advised that the juvenile and reference collections have been upgraded by purchasing starred and double starred items. Two sets of encyclopedias have been added to the young people's collection, subscriptions to two newspapers have been added and additional personnel has increased the Library Staff. Micro-film of Periodicals Mrs. Armstrong advised that an order has been placed for twenty-five (25) new periodicals , which will result in a total pf thirty-four (34) for the Library. Mrs. Armstrong reported that microfilm of these periodicals may be ordered at the end of the year. New Staff Members Mrs. Armstrong reported that at the beginning of October, 1968, one full time employee and one part-time employee were added to the Library Staff. V. ANNpyNCEMENT OF GIFT FROM SEE CORRECTION - REGULAR MEETING IpCAL LIONS CLUB JANUARY 16, 1969 An announcement was made that the local Lions Club has a new typewriter, 28 Bulletin type, and sealer labeler, for Euless Public Library. A written report was presented on the Texas Library Trustee Association Roundtable for District VII , held on October 26. l968. (Copy of report on file in Office of the City Secretary) VII . TEXAS LIBRARY ASSOCIATION MEMBERSHIP Board members were requested to submit their applications for membership to Mrs. Armstrong, for submitting to Euless City Hall . ": 111 . TITLE I FUND`; The announcement: was made that applications for Title I Funds should be filed no later than January I , 1969. IX. RESIGNATION OF BOARD MEMBER, MRS . ANNA CROUCH Mrs. Anna Crouch announced her resignation as a member of Euless Library Board. All Board Members present expressed their appreciation to Mrs. Crouch for her assistance as a Library Board Member and for serving as Chairman of this group. X.
