Regular Meeting of the Euless Library Board March 28, 1968 CALL TO ORDER The Regular Meeting of the Euless Library Board was called to order at 7:30 P. M. in the Fuller Room of Euless Public Library, with Mrs. Jack Browne, Chairman, presiding. Board Members present included Messrs. George Scott, Wayne O 'Daniel , and Mrs. Browne. Also present were Mrs. Geneva Armstrong, Librarian, and Miss Elizabeth Karle, Field Consultant for the Texas State Library. COMMUNICATION FROM FORT WORTH PUBLIC LIBRARY CONCERNING CENTRALIZED PROCESSING Mrs. Armstrong presented a letter from Mr. Wyman Jones, Director of Fort Worth Public Library. Mr. Jones ' letter advised that they will process only books purchased from the Booklist and Virginia Kirkus this year. Mr. Jones urged that all books be purchased through Centralized Processing and advised that the City's discount on non-technical books will be 39.8% and 14% on technical information, explaining that this discount resulted from renegotiating of their contract with the jobber. II . CONSIDERATION OF POLICY FOR HANDLING OF OVER-DUE BOOKS DURING NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK Members of the Board discussed the possibility of continuing their policy for handling overdue books which are returned during National Library Week. It was estimated that there are approximately four hundred (400) current overdue books. Mr. O 'Daniel made the motion that no overdue fines shall be charged for overdue books which are returned during National Library Week. Mr. Scott seconded the motion, and the vote is as follows: Ayes: Messrs. O 'Daniel , Scott and Mrs. Browne Nays: None Chairman Browne declared the motion carried. (Page Two, Regular Meeting, Euless Library Board, March 28, 1968) III . RECOMMENDATIONS ON USE AND PURCHASE OF MICRO-FILM AND TAPES. MISS ELIZABETH KARLE Miss Elizabeth Karle, Field Consultant for Texas State Library, made the recommendation that the first purchases of micr©L films should be of periodicals (newspapers, news magazines, etc.) . Miss Karle stated that films may be borrowed from Texas State Library and suggested that the Library Board consult Fort Worth Public Library for further suggestions. Miss Karle stated further that micro-film is especially useful in preserving local history. Miss Karle recommended that educational tapes be purchased for use with the sound equipment, to include pre-school books for children, classical and semi-classical music. Miss Karle cautioned the Board to move slowly in this field -- to make an allotment in the budget for the exact amount to be expended this year for tapes and films and to make an allotment in the budget annually for this type of material . Miss Karle advised that whe will investigate the price of micro-film and advise the Board of her findings. Mr. George Scott made the motion to allocate approximately $250.00 for the purchase of micro-film and $250.00 for the purchase of tapes this year. Mr. O 'Daniel seconded the motion, and the vote is as follows: Ayes: Messrs. Scott and O'Daniel , and Mrs. Browne Nays: None Chairman Browne declared the motion carried. IV. DISCUSSION OF VOLUNTEER PROGRAM The Volunteer Help Program was discussed with the Librarian, Mrs. Geneva Armstrong. It was determined that Mrs. Armstrong shall conduct two training sessions -- one for adults and one for Junior High School volunteers. V.
