You should receive an official Census Bureau postcard between March 12 and March 20. The mandatory survey is easy to complete and your personal information is kept confidential. The best part is, you can submit your answers online, over the phone or by mail. It’s important that everyone be counted. The 2020 Census results affect how much funding we receive for Medicare, Medicaid, highway planning/construction, national school lunch program, nutrition programs for seniors, state children’s health insurance, adoption assistance, crime victim’s assistance, business and industry loans, career and technical education, head start preschool, homeland security grants, health centers, foster care, low income energy assistance programs and more. Be Counted Day is April 1. You can find more information regarding the 2020 Census at www.census.gov. Euless City offices will be closed on Friday, April 10? Trash and recycling services will not be affected. Tarrant County Approved for Countywide Polling Places Tarrant County received approval from the Texas Secretary of State to have countywide voting for future elections. Euless voters may now vote at any of the polling places in Tarrant County during Early Voting and on Election Day. Voters can still vote at their regular polling place on Election Day, but now also have the option to vote at any polling place in the county if it is more convenient. Midway Dr. Euless voters will have the chance to decide whether to renew the Crime Control and Prevention District (CCPD). Euless citizens will consider extending the quarter cent sales tax used for crime control and pre-vention. In September, the Crime Control and Prevention District Board called an election for May 2, 2020 for consideration of the continuation of the CCPD and a 20-year extension of a quarter cent sales and use tax that is charged on taxable purchases in Euless. Euless residents passed the CCPD sales tax in 1995 and again in 2000 which allowed the City to receive this funding for 25 years now. This funding is exclusively for expenses for the Police Department and currently funds 19 Police Officers, a Crime Victim Liaison, a Mental Health Peace Officer, Regional SWAT Team, radio communications equipment, EPIC program (for elementary schools), community programs and technology upgrades. Early and regular voting will take place at the same time and place as the General City Council Election listed in this newsletter. The City of Euless will be holding a general election on Saturday, May 2, 2020.The General Election for Mayor, Place Two and Four will be held to fill expiring terms.The candidates in ballot order (update on 2/19) are: Mayor Councilmember, Place 2 Councilmember, Place 4Linda Martin Jeremy Tompkins Perry BynumTupou Helu Uhatafe Mubasher Warraich You must be registered by April 2 in order to vote in the May General Election. The Census is an official count or survey of the population that is conducted every ten years. For the first time you will be able to fill it out online. You will receive a postcard in March. Please complete it as soon as you receive that postcard. Census counts determine how over $675 billion per year of federal dollars are going to be spent over the next decade. George Washington University estimates that Texas has received over $1,500 per person in Federal Funding based on the 2010 Census response. Funds go towards:• Medicare/Medicaid• Highway planning and construction• National school lunch program• Nutrition programs for seniors• State children’s health insurance• Adoption assistance• Crime Victim’s assistance• Business and industry loans• Career and Technical Education• Head Start Preschool• Homeland security grants• Foster care and • Low income energy assistance programs The Census Bureau is required by law to keep all information confidential and may only relay information as statistics. CountMeInHEB! Fill out the Census form online, by phone or by mail on April 1, 2020. Safely dispose of hazardous waste from your home such as paint, chemicals and oil. (Please don’t bring cans containing dry paint, which can be safely disposed with your regular trash pick- up.) You may also bring small electrical applianc- es you would like to recycle such as computers, radios, VCRs, stereos, clocks and hairdryers. Space is limited. The mobile collection unit can accept liquid waste materials from approximately 125 households. If the hazardous unit reaches its capacity before you arrive, you may deliver your liquid waste materials to the Environmental Col- lection Center at 6400 Bridge Street in east Fort Worth. Industrial Blvd. Trinity High School’s Girls Awareness Program (GAP) is hosting a walk-a-thon to raise funds for the Euless Animal Shelter. Families are invited to bring their dogs on a leash for the Walk-a-Thon or walk a shelter dog during the event. Teams will have opportunities to win prizes. Low-cost microchipping and adoptions will be available during the walk. The GAP Club volunteers to foster and find homes for the dogs at the Euless Animal Shelter. In addition, they have made it their personal responsibility to love on, play with, groom, foster and raise money to pay for veterinary services. Over the years, thousands of volunteers have helped re- pair homes in one weekend, and now we are in- viting you to help us do it again. Volunteers will be assigned a home at check in. A light breakfast and lunch will be provided. Please bring gloves, ladders, rakes, shovels and push brooms if you have them. Arbor Daze 2020 Saturday, April 25, 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. (Main Stage opens at 5 p.m.) Euless Family Life Center 300 W. Midway Drive Join the fun at Arbor Daze, the ultimate family festival! There will be community entertainment, bounce houses, a Kidz Zone, tree giveaways, food-eating contests, a scavenger hunt and con- cessions. Plus, King George will be the headliner band. A 30-plus year “Tree City USA” recipient, the City of Euless is proud of its many “tree-men- dous” accomplishments promoting Arbor Day. Each attendee of the festival will receive a free tree. The urban tree canopy has been dwindling for decades, and the Arbor Daze Festival has giv- en over 150,000 trees since its inception. Most of these trees have been planted in the immediate area to replenish the local tree population.
