Parks and Leisure Services Board
January 9, 2012
CALL TO ORDER
The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 7:00 p.m. on
Monday, January 9, 2012, in the Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by Chairman
Eric Owens. Other Board Members present: Carroll Scott, John Raab, Darrel Knobloch, Randy
Jones, Travis Riffle and alternate Carl Miller. Members absent: Tiffany Smith.
Staff members present: Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald, Parks
Superintendent Terry Boaz, Parks Manager Randy Smith, Recreation Superintendent Michael
Davenport and Administrative Secretary Linda Lux.
Visitors present: Council Member Leon Hogg, Loretta & Steve Doty, Jeremy Tompkins, and
Donnetta Conley and Michelle Bottroff with La Petite Academy.
INVOCATION
Randy Jones gave the invocation.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Chairman Owens asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the
December 5, 2011 regular meeting. Darrel Knobloch made the motion to approve the minutes as
presented and was seconded by Carroll Scott. The vote was unanimous.
I. Board Member's Reports
Carroll Scott—McCormick Park, Preserve at McCormick Park—graffiti under Main Street and some
lights out—otherwise both parks clean
Travis Riffle—Reflection Park, Villages of Bear Creek Park—reported no items of concern
John Raab - Parks at Texas Star Athletic Complex—reported no items of concern

Randy Jones- Midway Park, Blessing Branch Park—reported no items of concern
Darrel Knobloch - Bob Eden Park, Trailwood Park—limbs and other items by the retaining wall
Carl Miller—South Euless Park, Heritage Park—reported no items of concern
Eric Owens—J. A. Carr Park, Kiddie Carr Park—reported no items of concern
Chairman Owens commented on the following recent special event held:
• December 10th—Heritage Park Christmas Celebration—was well attended
• January 7th-Tree Recycling event—was also well attended
Chairman Owens mentioned the next upcoming special event is February:
• R & R Program—February 6th—12th
• "Grease" —February 24th— Family Life Senior Center
Chairman Owens introduced Carl Miller and stated Carl had been on the Park Board a number of
years ago. Chairman Owens also thanked everyone for their reports tonight.
II. Volunteer of the Month
Chairman Owens presented the January 2012 Volunteer of the Month plaque to Donnetta Conley
and Michelle Bottroff with La Petite Academy. He stated that the day care took the incentive to
get involved in our Heritage Park Christmas event. They implemented an arts and crafts area for
the kids to color Christmas pictures, write letters to Santa Clause while participating in other fun
activities. He mentioned this was very surprising, uplifting and motivating for a local business to
call us wanting to participate in our Christmas event. Donnetta thanked the Board Members for
the award and said they had a really good time and they hope to participate in more future
programs.
III. Business of the Tree Board
Tree Board Chairman Carroll Scott reported on the following for December 1st—31St:

• There were 11 trees planted and 11 tree related purchases
IV. Parks and Community Services Reports
a. Recreation Report—Michael Davenport
Recreation Superintendent Michael Davenport reported on the following:
• Distributed "the PLAYBOOK"
• Open House
• Senior trips
• R & R Program
b. Parks Report— Randy Smith
Parks Manager Randy Smith reported on the following:
• Tree Recycling
• Dog Park
c. Community Services Report—Ray McDonald
Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald reported on the following:
• Master Plan update
• Sting Soccer
• PATS future parking
• Open House

Chairman Owens thanked everyone for their reports.
V. Election of Officers
Chairman Owens said the current Park Board Officers are: Chairman — Eric Owens, Vice
Chairman—John Raab and Secretary—Randy Jones.
The current Tree Board Officers are: Chairman — Carroll Scott and Vice Chairman — was Alex
Horton.
Chairman Owens said that each officer will be done by nomination and then voting on that
nomination. We will start with Chairman and then go down the list of officers for both Park Board
and Tree Board.
Randy Jones made a motion to nominate Eric Owens for Chairman of the Park Board. John Raab
made a motion to accept the nomination for Eric Owens as Chairman and was seconded by Darrel
Knobloch. The vote to approve was unanimous.
Darrel Knobloch made a motion to nominate John Raab for Vice Chairman. The motion was
seconded by Randy Jones and the vote to approve was unanimous.
John Raab nominated Randy Jones for Secretary. Darrel Knobloch made a motion to accept the
nomination of Randy Jones for Secretary and was seconded by John Raab. The vote to approve
was unanimous.
Darrel Knobloch nominated Carroll Scott for Chairman of the Tree Board. The motion was
seconded by John Raab and the vote to approve was unanimous.
Randy Jones made the motion to nominate Darrel Knobloch as Vice Chairman of the Tree Board.
The motion was seconded by John Raab and the vote to approve was unanimous.
The new 2012 Park Board officers are: Chairman — Eric Owens, Vice Chairman — John Raab and
Secretary—Randy Jones.
The new 2012 Tree Board officers are: Chairman — Carroll Scott and Vice Chairman — Darrel
Knobloch.

VI. Other New Business
Darrel Knobloch inquired as to the status of the tree ordinance. Chairman Owens stated this
would be a development department issue and would be handled through them.
Travis Riffle commented on the PLAYBOOK and mentioned we might be able to reach more
people on Face Book.
VII. Input from City Council Members and Visitors
Council Member Leon Hogg wished everyone a Happy New Year.
ADJOURNMENT
Chairman Owens gave the benediction. There being no further business to conduct, the meeting
was adjourned at 7:45 p.m.
