HomeMy WebLinkAbout2012-03-05 Regular Meeting Parks and Leisure Services Board March 5, 2012 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 5, 2012, in the Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by Chairman Eric Owens. Other Board Members present: Carroll Scott, John Raab, Darrel Knobloch, Randy Jones, Travis Riffle and alternate Tiffany Smith. Members absent: Carl Miller. Staff members present: Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald, Parks Superintendent Terry Boaz, Parks Manager Randy Smith, Recreation Superintendent Michael Davenport, Volunteer Coordinator Jerry Poteet and Administrative Secretary Linda Lux. Visitors present: Loretta and Steve Doty and Council Member Leon Hogg. INVOCATION Randy Jones gave the invocation. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Chairman Owens asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the February 6, 2012 regular meeting. Randy Jones made the motion to approve the minutes as presented and was seconded by Darrel Knobloch. The vote was unanimous. I. Board Member's Reports Carroll Scott — McCormick Park, Preserve at McCormick Park — reported two water fountains by the playground were not working at the Preserve Travis Riffle—Reflection Park, Villages of Bear Creek Park—reported that the wood fence is rotting by the trails near the creek and more wood chips need to be added by the swing sets John Raab - Parks at Texas Star Athletic Complex—reported no items of concern Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 2 March 5, 2012 Randy Jones- Midway Park, Blessing Branch Park— reported no items of concern Darrel Knobloch - Bob Eden Park, Trailwood Park—reported no items of concern Tiffany Smith—West Park, Wilshire Park—reported no items of concern Eric Owens—J. A. Carr Park, Kiddie Carr Park—reported no items of concern Chairman Owens highlighted some upcoming Special Events for March and April: • March 12th—Tarrant Area Food Bank—9:00 to Noon • April 14th—Texas Trash Off—9:00 to Noon—Villages of Bear Creek Park • April 28th & 29th—Arbor Daze Chairman Owens thanked everyone for their reports tonight. II. Volunteer of the Month Chairman Owens presented the March 2012 Volunteer of the Month plaque to QuikTrip. He said that our March nomination is a local business that not only stepped up to the plate to help our city with the 2012 Greet the Soldiers event, but they went beyond the call of duty. Instead of just writing us a check or giving us a gift card, they took the time to go out themselves and purchase $300.00 in various types of chocolates and gum. They displayed an overflowing amount of support for our city, department, and our American Troops. With that, we would like to recognize QuikTrip as the March 2012 Volunteer of the Month. Chairman Owens said they were not able to make the meeting tonight but their award would be delivered to them. III. Business of the Tree Board Tree Board Chairman Carroll Scott reported on the following for February 1st—29th: • Total man hours- 529.00 o 242.00 Horticulture o 47.00 Forestry o 207.00 Greenhouse o 1.00 Special Projects Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 3 March 5, 2012 a 32.00 Training • There were no trees planted and 130 tree related purchases IV. Parks and Community Services Reports a. Recreation Report—Jerry Poteet Volunteer Coordinator Jerry Poteet reported on the following: • Special Events for 2012 • Volunteer Groups • Volunteer Businesses • Volunteer Hours b. Parks Report—Randy Smith Parks Manager Randy Smith reported on the following: • Library • Parks at Texas Star ball fields • Dog Park • Tree City USA and Growth Award c. Community Services Report—Ray McDonald Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald reported on the following: Ray McDonald said he received an Adopt-A-Park application from Mr. William Meadows at 503 Evans Drive and he would like to adopt Wilshire Park since he walks this park daily. Darrel Knobloch made a motion to approve the Adopt-A-Park application for Wilshire Park and was seconded by John Raab. The vote was unanimous. Chairman Owens thanked everyone for their reports. Input from City Council Members and Visitors There was no input from the audience. ADJOURNMENT Chairman Owens gave the benediction.
