The following members were in attendance: Gayla Maas, D.V.M. Leon Hogg JT Ackerman Staff Support: Ron Young, Richard Boatright, & Cynthia Daniel Citizen Attendance: None ITEM 2 — REVIEW AND APPROVE MINUTES FROM MEETING OF JANUARY 19, 2012 Chairman Maas asked if there were any questions regarding the minutes of January 19, 2012. Chairman Maas entertained motion to accept. Leon made a motion to approve the Minutes of January 19, 2012. JT seconded the motion. Motion approved. ITEM 3 - STAFF REPORT — SHELTER OPERATIONS JT reported that a Public Works employee went through the training to be an animal control officer and is waiting for the next testing date. Will use him when shelter is short staffed to give him hands on experience. Still charging time that Public Works employees work at Shelter to Shelter's budget. ITEM 4 - SHELTER STATISTICS REPORT Euthanasias up a little compared to same quarter last year. May be due to more feral cats and dog numbers are up slightly due to owner releases, ill/infirm and unadoptable. Richard said there are more people bringing their pets to the shelter to be euthanized instead of taking to a veterinarian. Chairman Maas asked that staff watch to make sure this is not a trend up. The increase is because of owner requests not because they are ASAB Meeting Page 2 April 19, 2012 not being adopted. Thirty animals were adopted which is up from the same quarter last year partly due to the GAP Club's involvement. Chairman Maas asked what the two citations were for the first quarter. Richard said one was for animal at large (someone was letting their dogs out to run around at an apartment complex) and the other citation was to the owner of a cat that was trapped by a neighbor who was trapping feral cats that were getting in his garden. Calls for service is close to the same number as the first quarter last year but down a little. ITEM 5 — DOG DAZE PLANNING Event scheduled for May 12th from 8:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. Low cost vaccinations will be available but the prices will not be posted on the website. Chairman Maas will provide a list of prices to the Shelter staff in the next week or so for people who call to inquire. Chairman Maas said event will be run in the same format as last year. Will offer just snacks and bottled water. No groomers will be there. JT has set aside some time for employees to clean and set-up the area to be used for event. An employee will be there early to open the gate for Chairman Maas to get her truck in to get set up for event. Leon asked about putting a sign up to remind Euless residents at Dog Daze that it is also voter day. ITEM 6 — BOARD MEMBERS OR CITIZENS REQUESTS OF ITEMS TO BE ADDRESSED BY STAFF AND/OR PLACED ON FUTURE AGENDAS Chairman Maas asked if anyone had an item to put on the next agenda. Will discuss the Dog Daze results at the next board meeting. Richard and JT gave an update on Larry James illness. He is out of the hospital and improving. He may be back at work next Monday. JT will keep the Board updated on the progress of the Public Works' employee that is taking the training to be an animal control officer.
